Rabbi Stephen Weiss, who has served as senior rabbi at B’nai Jeshurun Congregation in Pepper Pike, Ohio, was arrested by a law enforcement team with the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

The 60-year-old Cleveland-area rabbi traveled to a pre-arranged location to allegedly engage in sexual activity with what he thought was a child, after communicating on a social networking app.

According to court records, the vehicle he was driving was searched and law enforcement officers found a box of condoms, two bottles of lubricant, and erectile dysfunction medication.

The prosecutor’s office revealed that Weiss was charged with:

  • attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor;
  • soliciting sexual services; and,
  • possessing criminal tools.

Court records also show Rabbi Weiss posted a $50,000 bond and must wear an ankle monitor until his trial as a condition of his bond.

Priests, pastors, rabbis and clergy members are increasingly being held accountable for abuses

Over the past several decades, thousands of boys and girls report sexual abuses every year at the hands of the church clergy, institutional leadership, and other persons acting in roles they should be able to trust.

These institutional and organizational leaders were aware of these abuses and opted not to report them to authorities–electing to protect the violators as opposed to the victims.

Those adults responsible were never publicly identified but instead were passed on to other cities or organizations–and, left alone to repeat their crimes against young victims and the families suffering with them.

Those that have been abused by these institutions and their families are now encouraged to come forward for a free, private case evaluation by a qualified USA Assistance Team attorney, with the potential to file a claim for compensation due to the following:

  • The statute of limitations have been lifted in many cases;
  • Many victims are given the opportunity to tell their stories; and,
  • Church and organization leadership are more ready to reveal abusers.

The USA Assistance Team believes that victims of B'nai Jeshurun Congregation Rabbi Stephen Weiss–and all sexual abuse victims of pastors, priests, preachers, and clergy members–should be able to address abusers in court and get compensation and justice.
