A former substitute teacher from Ontario, who confessed to inappropriate touching of six students under the age of 11 during school hours, has been handed a five-year prison sentence by a San Bernardino Superior Court judge.

Eric Norman Olsen, who worked in numerous Southern California school districts, came under investigation after students at Berlyn Elementary School reported incidents where he touched a girl inappropriately during assignment reviews.

Several students witnessed the alleged molestation, which occurred over two hours during lunch or recess, and at least one student reported it to school officials

Olsen admitted to becoming sexually aroused by over 100 to 200 children he held on his lap over three years while working in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Kern Counties.

Thirteen sets of parents reported inappropriate touching, leading the San Bernardino County district attorney’s office to file 11 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child against Olsen.

The incidents occurred on three separate days in 2005 in Fontana and Ontario-Montclair school districts.

What Were Some Details About His Punishment?

While chronicling his past to detectives, he stated that had been removed from two water parks after ogling girls.

He said his parents believe he is innocent, though his father admonished him for allowing students on his lap.

While Judge Katrina West dismissed nine of the 11 charges due to a lack of evidence, Deputy Dist. Atty. Jason Anderson refiled four charges, asserting a solid case.

Olsen pleaded no contest to the remaining six counts of child molestation.

Psychiatrists at the California Institution for Men diagnosed him as a pedophile or displaying sexually deviant behavior.

Concluding that Olsen would not be amenable to treatment, Judge Ingrid A. Uhler sentenced him to five years in prison.

He was also referred for placement in a state correctional facility with rigorous sex offender treatment programs, such as San Luis Obispo.

Olsen, 29, must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence and will be a registered sex offender for life.
